Man, 25, Remanded Over Alleged Armed Robbery, Theft
An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Lukman Yinub, in Ilesa Prison over alleged armed robbery.
The magistrate, Mr Olusegun Ayilara, said that he ordered the remand of the defendant until the next adjourned date due to the magnitude of his offences.
The defendant is facing a two-count charge of stealing and armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Insp. Joshua Oladoye, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 30, at about 2:20 a.m. at Stamosta area, Iwo, Osun.
Oladoye said the defendant conspired with others currently at large to rob one Wasilat Adenike and Ibrahim Sanni of their valuables worth N227, 000.
“The defendant carted away phones and cash, totaling N22, 000.
“He also went away with a set of plasma television, a wristwatch and an iPhone before he was arrested,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was armed with dangerous weapons which include: guns, cutlasses and charms during the act.
“The accused and his accomplice used the weapons to carry out their nefarious operations,’’ Oladoye said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11 Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The plea of the accused was not taken and the case was adjourned until June 20 for mention
